Calculate cubic yards, tons, and cost of pea gravel for paths, playgrounds, and landscaping.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many cubic yards of pea gravel do I need?
Volume (cu ft) = Length × Width × Depth (inches ÷ 12). Divide by 27 to get cubic yards. Example: 10×10 ft at 2" deep = 0.62 cubic yards ≈ 0.8 tons.
How much does 1 ton of pea gravel cover?
About 100 sq ft at 2" deep, or 50 sq ft at 4" deep. 1 cubic yard of pea gravel weighs approximately 1.3 tons.
Does pea gravel need edging?
Yes — pea gravel migrates easily. Install plastic, metal, or wood edging to keep it in place.
Can you use pea gravel for a driveway?
Not ideal. Pea gravel is round and doesn't compact, so cars push it aside. Use crushed limestone or #57 stone for driveways. If you do use pea gravel, use edging and a solid base.
