Frequently Asked Questions

Can I halve any recipe?

Most recipes halve well. Exceptions: yeast breads (minimum yeast amounts), custards (need minimum depth), and souffles (need minimum volume).

How do I scale baking pans?

Match total batter volume. A recipe for one 9×13 pan works in two 8" rounds or three 6" rounds.

Do conversions work for all recipes?

Our tool uses standard conversion ratios suitable for most recipes. However, some specialty ingredients (like honey or powdered sugar) have different densities that may require slight adjustments.

Is weight or volume more accurate for baking?

Weight (grams) is more reliable than volume (cups, tablespoons) for baking because ingredient densities vary significantly. For example, 1 cup of flour can range from 120-160g depending on how it's measured.

What standards are the conversions based on?

We use USDA and international standard ingredient density data. All conversion factors have been verified multiple times for accuracy.
